Teeth, Dominoes, and Everest
Establishing a routine that works for us - not against us - can feel like an uphill battle.
You wake up groggy after a patchy nightâs sleep. You lie there âjust a little longer,â and before you know it, half an hour has vanished. Thereâs no way that youâve time to fit in the workout you promised yourself youâd do. Your to-do list is already causing you angst. And yet again, that perfect morning self-care ritual youâd read about and wanted to implement will have to wait another day.
You tell yourself: âTomorrow will be different.â
But tomorrow often looks suspiciously like today. The same stiff body, the same foggy head, the same cycle repeating itself until you feel like youâre scraping the bottom of the barrel - physically, mentally, and emotionally.
So whatâs the answer?
Not a magic tonic, or the latest supplement with âsuperpowers.â The answer is far less glamorous - but infinitely more powerful.
Itâs about focusing on implementing one thing and establishing a routine of doing it - even if itâs 2 minutes.
You may have heard of the book "The One Thingâ by Gary Keller & Jay Papasan. It's beautiful in its simplicity. The authors extol the virtue of sticking to doing ONE THING. Becoming laser focused on the ONE THING that you need to do & DO WELL before you move onto the next thing.
Itâs about building domino effect. This shows how knocking over one small domino can set off a chain reaction that topples much bigger ones. The same principle applies to your health. The smallest shift in your morning routine can trigger ripple effects that shape your entire day⌠and eventually, your entire life.
Your first domino might be small but itâs the start of a chain reaction that compounds and could reach the moon. Don't believe me? Just look at this image below and the power or starting with one tiny actionâŚ

You Already Have Routines
Think about it: you already have routines. You brush your teeth every morning and evening, without fail. What if you used that as your first domino, and attached something small, simple, and meaningful to it?
Here are a few ideas that can take less than two minutes:
-
Breathe: Inhale for 4 seconds, exhale for 6 seconds. Repeat 8 times (just 80 seconds) to reset your nervous system.
-
Move: Stand tall, inhale as your arms sweep overhead, exhale as they lower to your sides. Repeat 4 times (40 seconds).
-
Listen: Pop in your earphones and play a song that lifts your mood.
-
Meditate: Try a guided meditation for 2â10 minutes. Even if youâve dismissed it before, commit to trying againâdailyâfor one week.
The trick isnât to overhaul your mornings. Itâs to choose one domino and knock it down, every day, for 7 days. See how you feel. Then, if itâs working, add another.
Just Do It

This is how lasting change is built: not in grand gestures, but in consistent, almost invisible shifts that gather momentum until you realise your mornings (and your life) look and feel completely different.
